movie study
Thought I'd share how I kinda go about doing these movie studies. Some of you guys might want to see the process.
I basically choose a simple palette and values that match the image when I squint my eyes.
I then start adding more color and add the figures with simple strokes
I continue to refine adding bigger details
then I concentrate on the smaller details to bring it to a close
I take my time with these as i try to get better at matching colors and values

Hi there,
Here are a couple of test renders for a scene i was working on. I was designing Man-At-Arms' workshop and was playing around a little with the lighting to see where i could take it. Also playing around with a couple of different compositions for some keyframe art ideas. Still have to go back and revisit these at some point, but for now I just wanted to share a bit of my 3D block-in process.

Quick and Dirty
Hey guys,
Thought I'd show some samples of the quick and dirty work you sometimes have to produce when working in the production of video games. It's not always about the nice renderings or the lovely mood paintings. Sometimes the AD will just show up and ask you for a quick sketch over 3D geometry or a quick design for a prop. So you may just have a couple of hours or an afternoon to ship it.
These are some examples of that kind of work I did for Halo. They are not the nicest rendered pieces, but they are enough to show what the idea is and where it could go from there.
Enjoy,
F.Acosta

Happy 2013!
I did these studies over the Holiday break. I tend to paint with saturated colors and wanted to study something with a different palette. So I did these studies from the film "Seven Swords". It's the initial introduction to the bad guys in the film and what I really liked was that besides having great designs and compositions, this intro also has a very grey-brown dusty palette with just hints of saturated reds. It makes for a very bold statement and I really enjoyed and learned a lot by doing these. Hope you liked them too!
