hi,

I normally just tend to post finished drawings or sketches, but this time I wanted to share a bit of my WIP. Over the last couple of years I have been developing different techniques to do my art.

For a while now I have been trying to do an alien for my personal project but had a lot of trouble sketching him down on paper. For some reason he just was not coming down right. At work I recently got the new version of zbrush and decided to learn it by working on the alien again, maybe the third time would be the charm

I started with a dynamesh sphere and just sculpted the basic skull and and the planes of the head that I had in my head. I then took  a side view and drew over it with some lineart. I brought the sideview back into zbrush where I used it as reference to further my sculpt. Once I was happy with him I took him back to photoshop where I'm continuing to work on him.

He's getting there. I still want to play with the head and "hair" a bit and also with the colours. So far I'm really enjoying this new process, seems quite fun and quick too.

later,

F.Acosta

Pretty cool alien! Has a Blizzard feel to him somehow. Just out of curiosity, what matcap are you using for the zbrush portion of this?

hey Alex ,
Thanks glad you like him. I used this matcap that I got while looking a nic zuccarello's work.

Aha, I see - thanks for the link! Oh, I am familiar with his work. Was just wondering as I went through a bunch in the pixologic matcap stash, but could never find one that's good for actual sculpting, or at least as good as the default material.
