hi,

I normally just tend to post finished drawings or sketches, but this time I wanted to share a bit of my WIP. Over the last couple of years I have been developing different techniques to do my art.

For a while now I have been trying to do an alien for my personal project but had a lot of trouble sketching him down on paper. For some reason he just was not coming down right. At work I recently got the new version of zbrush and decided to learn it by working on the alien again, maybe the third time would be the charm

I started with a dynamesh sphere and just sculpted the basic skull and and the planes of the head that I had in my head. I then took  a side view and drew over it with some lineart. I brought the sideview back into zbrush where I used it as reference to further my sculpt. Once I was happy with him I took him back to photoshop where I'm continuing to work on him.

He's getting there. I still want to play with the head and "hair" a bit and also with the colours. So far I'm really enjoying this new process, seems quite fun and quick too.

Hi,

I had forgotten to share this one. I had to go back and look for it, so I decided to post it as well.

Not completely happy with how this one turned out. Dusk and Dawn are tough to draw specially in a cityscape. I think I will go back and try it again after some more studies.

Anyways,

Have a great week.

Skittles

hey everyone,

long time no post. Been busy at work and working on my side project. I'm taking my time with it so it's taking longer than expected but i like how it's coming along. So here's a version of the sharpshooter character i had done before, but more sci-fi. I will be doing more variations on her costume as she is the main character. So expect those later one. Trying to get all the texture and stitches details into the designs to make them a bit more realistic.

let me know what you guys think

EDIT: Thanks to Alex's comments I changed the straps on her leg and try to bring out the self lighting shadows a bit more. Thanks for the Feedback!!!

Also here's a study that I did to understand the lighting and the pose a bit better. In the end I changed the lighting, but it was still very useful. I kinda like some things about the study more.

Thumbnails

Didn't have much time to do these, but I liked he exercise of choosing different camera angles. I like the birds-eye view the most out of these. I'll keep at it.

Shark!

Hey everyone,

It's been a while since my latest post, but I'm happy to say that I'm all moved into a new apartment and loving my new Job at DE. The people there are really friendly and the company takes really good care of it's employees. So far I'm having a blast!!!

Over the past couple of years I've been trying to work on different personal projects and now I've chosen to work on the "Bounty Hunter Wars" (title will change) for the foreseeing future. So pretty much I will be trying to figure the story and characters out in my spare time, and also focus a lot on developing a style and working on my colors and values.

I'm continuing a couple of iterations on shark, here's my latest pass. I've done a thousand of these and this is the closes I've come to being happy with him. I dropped the four eyed idea, I buildt a really quick proxy in zbrush to get the 3/4 angle working the way I wanted to and painted over.

Anyways, hope you like it.

Bounty Hunter Wars: Shipyard

Last weekend I started a piece for a shipyard idea I had for my Bounty Hunter Wars, personal project, and today I had some time to finish it. So far I'm happy with this direction. I want this world to be gritty and dirty so this was a fun piece to work on. None of the designs are final, just a fun mood and exploration piece.

A co-worker wanted to see how I do some environments, so I've also added a step by step. No 3D this time, I was trying out shape exploration. Hope you guys like it!!

Any comments or questions, let me know.

Bounty Hunter Wars

This is the running title I have so far for my new personal project. This is the other female companion. I'm doing different versions of this character Rook-VIII. Trying to come up with a cool female alien lineup.

It's tough making attractive alien females, the more you draw away from human features the harder it gets, but it's a great exercise and a ton of fun.

I will share the rest as I get them done.

Also as a bonus I'm adding some sketches I did a while back of some environments i was thinking of using. In this case i didn't use 3D, still lots of fun though.

Enjoy,

Enter the new year

Hey guys,

Happy New Year! Can't believe it's almost February, time is flying by too fast.

Here are a couple of sketches of a personal project I'm working on. A Sci-Fi, Bounty Hunter Tale. In it there's a Mob Boss who has two female bodyguards, one an alien girl and another one a human. Here's a stab at the human one.

For her I was inspired by Mercy (Lex Luthor's Bodyguard) and also from different Fashion collections. This one in particular was inspired by Alexander Wang's F/W 2010 collection. I like the direction where this is going, but it seems too military or rigid for me, maybe even to air hostess like. Also not very practical as it seems too tight for her to fight in. I'm still working on her and her alien companion so there's plenty more time for trial and error.

I just wanted to share this quickly and also ask you guys a question. I enjoy painting or drawing clothes and in particular folds the most. I find it very relaxing and a real challenge at the same time. is there anything that you guys like drawing the most? why so?

Thanks for dropping by,

F.Acosta
